***For the RSS version of this post just read the first sentence of every paragraph.
I love the ease of use and functionality of the RSS feed, it allows me to sift or filter through headlines and information most relevant or use full to me. In today's age there is an extreme overload of information. We are bombarded with facts and opinions through the radio, T.V., Internet, magazines and other various forms of communication. The form of communication I'd like to discuss is conversation or word of mouth.
The first point I'd like to make is that in the church we waste lots of time in meetings saying things that could be said in an email. Email is a great tool for communication on both personal and corporate levels. Whether I need to communicate to a team of 5 or if the whole congregation needs to know something it can be easily sent with a global click. Thus giving you more time to devote to your stamp collection. Email, like an RSS feed can crystalize an hour worth of meeting into 3 or 4 important points which can be read in 5 minutes or less.
Second and most importantly, in everyday talking and interacting with others we must realize the importance of being clear and to the point. Since we know people are already bogged down with tons and tons of useless information we must not babble. There is plenty of time to goof off and be chill in our speech. Trust me I know. I love to shoot the breeze or chew the fat. What I'm referring to is what we'll call "key" conversations. I'll focus mainly on interactions between yourself and other believers and those between yourself and someone you're trying to lead to Christ.
We must learn to boil down all revelation and information shared into what I call revelatory gems, crystalized points of significance. Again I want to reiterate not all talk just important or "key" dialogue. Whether your discussing things you learned, received lately in prayer or a verse you read in the Word if you wish the person you are speaking with to retain the heart of what you're saying you must have your thoughts boiled down to gems. This thought came out of a conversation I had with a friend, he was telling me what he had been learning at the discipleship school he was attending. He was really excited or "on fire" about all of it. He went on for like 45 minutes and I couldn't tell you one thing he told me. I was excited in my spirit and happy for him but he didn't leave me with anything to repeat or any specific idea or thought to spread to others.
Finally, with the thought of a RSS feed in mind we can tailor the same thought or idea with a headline that appeals to the audience we are engaged with. When they hear the headline that speaks to them and their interests they shoot up they antennas causing the odds of retention to shoot through the roof. Consider your audience, whether it's your church, your family, friends, a stranger or a customer focus or arrange your word usage to suit them. By doing this, you become all things to all men.
So this is my gem, for anything we say to have real effect in the lives of people it must be clear, specific and easily multiplied and repeated in the mouths of others. Sorry if this defeats itself by being to long.
We know you never slack off at work, but if you did, what would you do?
If I slacked off at "work" I'd actually be working since, I technically would be slacking from slacking.
A series of shots from Olympia taken with my good friend Shawn. We took a ninja like self guided tour of the capitol building. Tried to develop an eye for capturing patterns in a creative way. Thus the above title...
